Truffaut’s “Shoot the Piano Player” at NW Film Center

Catch the 1960 Truffault classic SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER(Tirez sur le pianiste), Sunday, August 16 at 7pm at NW Film Center (Whitsell Auditorium in the Portland Art Museum).

SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER is part of NW Film’s series The Art of Reinvention: Paul Thomas Anderson & His Influences.

Truffaut, hot off his success with THE 400 BLOWS, completely changed directions with SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER, a film influenced by Hollywood gangster movies that traded claustrophobic framing for black-and-white Cinemascope grandeur.

French heart-throb Charles Aznavour stars as a nightclub pianist in the depths of depression after the death of his wife. Critics say that this was the movie that brought the French new wave to American audiences.
