Portland’s 7th Annual Concours de Tartes aux Fruits

Portland’s 7th Annual Concours de Tartes aux Fruits, a competition of the region’s top pastry chefs, will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Multnomah Athletic Club, 1849 SW Salmon Street in Portland.

The event brings together the French tradition of a culinary concours (competition) and the opportunity to enjoy fruit tarts made by some of best pastry chefs in the region, many of whom trained in France and/or studied with French chefs pâtissiers.

Fruit tarts were chosen to star in this event because they are a delicious and spectacular way to present the fruits of the season.

This year’s event will feature a new panel of celebrity judges, including Danielle Centoni, who is a writer, editor, recipe developer, and co-author of The Sugar Cube and Mother’s Best cookbooks. She will be joined on the panel by Sam Bakall, food reporter of the Oregonian, and Barb Randall, food editor of Lake Oswego Review and West Linn Tidings, as well as Philippe Boulot of the MAC. Close to 30 chefs from all over the region will compete, including chefs from Andina, Art Institute of Portland, Bees & Beans, Black Rabbit Restaurant at McMenamin’s Edgefield, Higgins Restaurant, Imperial, Multnomah Athletic Club, Noble Rot, North Light, Oregon Culinary Institute, Paley’s Place, Perfect Bake App & Pure Imaginatio, Rawdacious Desserts, Ringside Hospitality Group, Saint Cupcake, St. Honoré Boulangerie, St. Honoré Boulangerie, The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Portland, The Town Club, Tropical Baking Co. and Whole Foods Market Bridgeport.

Guests will enjoy a sampling of the tarts, sparkling wines, Lillet aperitif wines, as well as imported French cheese and charcuterie. All-inclusive tickets for the general public are $30; tickets for Alliance Française and Multnomah Athletic Club members are $25.

Reservations for the general public and Alliance members can be made online or by phone at 503-223-8388. MAC members should reserve directly with the club.

This event is organized jointly by the Alliance Française, the MAC and Oregon Culinary Institute. The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Alliance.
