A journey through French Music with Singer Songwriter Eric John Kaiser

Chanson Française” translated literally to “French Song.” The sound instantly evokes smokey Paris cafes, romance, sentimentality. Even more than that, Chanson Française is the beating heart of the French people, the social fabric woven into generations since the French Revolution.

Chanson Française tells lyrical stories of social justice, spirituality and love – Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien, Le Port d’Amsterdam, or Les Feuilles Mortes – as sung by Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel or Yves Montand. Singer-songwriter Eric John Kaiser, known as “Portland’s French Troubadour,” helps keep the tradition alive in the Pacific Northwest. When he arrived in the creativity-soaked environs of Portland, Oregon, (in pursuit of a girl, of course) from his native France seven years ago, Eric already had more than 350 performances to his credit.

Since landing in America, Eric has explored America one song at a time. He tours nationally in the US and has performed at the de Young Museum in San Francisco and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. Eric has released four CDs that have been critically acclaimed in many states.

Come to the Alliance Française of Portland on Tuesday, December, to share in Eric John Kaiser’s love of French music. Discover the life and songs of icons such as Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Georges Brassens, and more.
