The presentation includes Powerpoint and Internet support as well as samples from some of the century’s most famous performers. First, the administrative rules that apply to Americans living or working in France in regards to taxes, driving, banking, and benefits.

Second: understanding the visa and work authorization options, and how they apply in the case of regulated professions and in the context of EU agreements.

Raybois was born, raised and educated in France. She moved to the US three decades ago and splits her time between her native France and the U.S. She is the author of Chez Moi: The Foreigner’s Guide to Buying a Home in France and has presented numerous times in Portland, Seattle, and other French and U.S. locations.

Chefs from throughout the city will compete to see who makes the best fruit tart. Members of the public may attend the juried competition and enjoy sampling the tarts as well as French sparkling and dessert wines. Celebrity chefs – Philippe Boulot of the MAC Club and The Heathman Restaurant and Pascal Chureau of Brasserie Montmartre and Allium Bistro – will select the best tarts.

With activities both in and outside the classroom, each camp will provide a balance of fun activities, relaxation and studies. Children will be divided into groups based on their ages. Snacks will be provided. Sign up for one week or more – content will vary from week to week!

Emphasis is on the spoken language and developing fluidity of expression, through: 1) targeted exercises that focus on specific problem areas for Anglophones, 2) new vocabulary with an emphasis on idiomatic expressions, 3) grammar review and highlights with a focus on mastery of pronouns and the subjunctive, and 4) practical-life sessions.

Targeted for levels A2 and above, the workshop will allow participants to discover new vocabulary, practice pronunciation and oral expression, develop listening comprehension, and also understand the cultural context. 

Fee for the 1.5 hour workshop (6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) Friday, April 27, is $18 for Alliance members and $25 for non-members.

Director Linda Witt visited the Institut this March at its picturesque location on the Côte d’Azur, and experienced the program first-hand. “Many of the Institut’s participants first get a solid foundation at their local Alliance and then come to Villefranche to polish and perfect their spoken French, through intensive immersion.”

Witt will present the insider’s view of the program — its focus, pedagogy, pricing, accommodations, and all relevant details, on Friday, April 20, at 6:00 p.m. at the Alliance (1425 SW 20th Ave.) If you’re considering immersion options, reserve your spot at the presentation — $5 for Alliance members and $8 for non-members.
