Bastille Day July 14 at Jamison Square

The West Coast’s largest Bastille Day celebration will take place on Saturday, July 14, from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Jamison Square in the Pearl. The Saturday festival is free and open to the public and has attracted as many 8,000 participants in years past.

12th Annual Waiters Race: The popular Portland Waiters Race returns to Bastille Day and will start at 2:00 pm. Racers will be competing for $2000 in prizes, mostly cash! Cheer them on as the waiters circle the square three times balancing glasses of water on a tray — it’s not easy! The winner combines the best time with the fewest spills. (Interested waiters can sign up online to register.)

L’Avenue de la cuisine: French-themed menu options will be plentiful from popular and unique restaurants including the Kasbah Moroccan Cafe, Olympic Provisions, St Honoré Bakery, C’est  and Ruby Jewel Ice Cream. The popular wine & beer garden in Jamison Square will feature specialty cocktails from diamond sponsor, Hardy Cognac. You’ll also enjoy refreshing beers and wines.

Air France Raffle: The Alliance and its event partner the French-American Chamber of Commerce are pleased to offer a raffle for two round-trip Main Cabin (Economy Class) tickets from Seattle to Europe on Air France. Look for details soon.

Live Music: The festival features French-themed music on the main stage throughout the day, including French singer Loig Morin, French cafe music from the Zephyr trio, Dixieland jazz from the Mudtown Stompers, and French favorites from Merlin, a lively father-daughter accordion-fiddle duo.

Le Marché: Enjoy the wares of local arts & crafts vendors (including many importers of French products) and find a bargain at the enormous French book sale hosted by the Alliance Française.

Pour les enfants: Look for a wide range of children’s activities with special activities led by Portland Art Museum docents, facepainting, and more.

Pour tous: Enjoy the fencing demonstrations, then try it yourself with the masters from Northwest Fencing Center. Wander through the Concours de Deux-Cheveux on NW Johnson, a collection of vintage Citroens.

Jamison Square is located at 810 NW 11th Avenue at NW Johnson in the Pearl. The festival occupies the entire Square, known for its shady lawns and spacious fountain. Jamison Square can be reached by the Portland Streetcar A Loop and NS Lines, with stops at NW Johnson and NW 10th/NW 11th.
