Martinique Soccer This Saturday

Martinique’s soccer team, Les Matinino, captured the Group B title last year in the Caribbean Cup finals and earned a ticket to compete in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, July 7-23 in the United States.

The team will be practicing here in Portland before their July games in Pasadena (against Canada), Seattle (against Panama) and in Denver (against Mexico City). This will be the team’s fourth time competing in the prestigious CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Portland Timbers forward Frédéric Piquionne was named in the preliminary roster and is looking forward to welcoming his friends to the Rose City! The public is invited to attend a friendly against the Timbers under-23 Squad on Saturday, June 29, at 7pm at Buckman Field (300 NE 12th Avenue) in NE Portland. The match is free to the public. There are some bleachers at the field but attendees might also wish to bring their own folding chairs as a backup. Food carts may be on site (this site will be updated as that develops); fans can also bring picnics/food for enjoyment on site.

Considering fan gear? Martinique will be wearing Royal Blue and White uniforms. French flags are very welcome.
