Summer Term Mini Classes

Mini classes  are a perfect opportunity to keep studying French without a long commitment. Each class targets a specific area or theme. Mini classes are offered in a series of 4-weeks, 1h30 hours per session:

Series 1: June 13 - July 9 (No class on July 4. Monday classes end July 11)
Series 2: July 11 - August 6 (Monday classes start July 18)
Series 3: August 8 - September 3

Beginning A1 - In English


Sounding French

Do you need help with French pronunciation or understanding spoken French? In this class, primarily in English, you will have an opportunity to understand in depth the most common challenges that face English speakers regarding French phonetics. Practice pronunciation as well as orthography (spelling) to better understand the relationship between the spoken and written word.

Beginning A1


Mastering Verbs A1

This four week class will review different verbs and tenses every week through drills and conversation while incorporating and revisiting vocabulary typically learned in the A1 series. This is a repeat of Series 1 in June.

Week 1: Review the present tense conjugation of regular verbs.
Week 2: Review the present tense conjugation of typical irregular verbs.
Week 3: Compound verb structures. Students will review the future proche and the modal verbs pouvoir, vouloir, and devoir.
Week 4: Review the introductory past tenses such as passé composé with avoir and être, and the use of the passé récent to express things that just happened or that you have just done.

Learning With Dictée -A1

La dictée is how the French learn French. Considered to be one of the best ways to learn the nuances of spelling and grammar in the French language, it is done by millions of children in French schools every day. In this 4-week class, you will improve your listening comprehension skills, spelling, and vocabulary while solidifying your understanding of grammatical points taught in the Édito A1 method. Learn the same way as the French do: through a series of dictation activities and short discussions about some of the most troublesome areas of spelling, agreement, and conjugation.

Sounding French - A1

Pronunciation is the key to successful communication in French, and this 4-week class will concentrate on areas of pronunciation that are typically troublesome for beginning learners of French studying at the A1 level. You will improve your speech, comprehension and pronunciation as you examine the link between spoken and written French – intonation, rhythm, vowels, liaison, and mute final letters.

Lower Intermediate A2 and A2/B1 Levels



Mastering Verbs - A2

This four week class will review the different formation and use of various verb tenses each week through drills and conversation, in addition to incorporating and revisiting vocabulary typically learned in the A2 series.  This is a repeat of Series 1 in June.

Week 1: Students will review the passé composé.
Week 2: Students will review the formation and use of the imparfait.
Week 3: Students will review the use of the passé composé and imparfait when used together.
Week 4: Students will review expressions of time with present and past tense verbs.

Sounding French - A2/B1

The focus will be on intonation and rhythm, and the link between written and spoken French. Through a variety of word games, dictations, and tongue twisters, you will improve not only your pronunciation and accent, but also your listening comprehension and grammar.

Intermediate B1 and Upper Intermediate B2 Levels


Grammar in Context B1/B2

Learn or review essential grammatical concepts for the B1/B2 level through authentic songs, readings, video clips, and games in this engaging mini-class. Series 3 will focus on: futur simple et futur antérieur, subjonctif, pronoms COD et COI

Mastering Verbs - B1

This four week class will review different verb tenses and moods through drills and conversation while incorporating and refreshing vocabulary typically learned in the B1 series.  This is a repeat of Series 1 in June.

Week 1: Narrating past events. Students will review the use of the passé composé, imparfait, and plus-que-parfait when narrating past events.
Week 2: Moods and modes (part I): Students will review formation and use of the subjunctive.
Week 3: Moods and modes (part II): Students will continue to review subjective uses, including when to choose the subjunctive or indicative.
Week 4: Conditions and hypotheses: Students will review future simple and conditional tenses, as well as how to speak about hypothetical situations using both tenses.

Women in 17th-century French literature and society: Les salonnières et la préciosité B1/B2

Discover how women shaped the language and culture of early modern France through this unique peek into 17th-century French literature and society. In this workshop, we will learn about the social structure of Ancien Régime France, including the role of women as hosts of “salons.” We will then study the unique language of “préciosité,” a style of speaking and writing created by the women of the salons, by reading and acting out scenes from Molière’s plays “Les Femmes savantes” and “Les Précieuses ridicules.”
