"product_content": "During Portland's season of rainy gray skies, come soak in the vibrant warmth of the Mediterranean through the photo exhibition Couleurs Méditerranée. Join us for the exhibition opening on November 20th from 5-6:30 pm, where you can enjoy a cozy cocktail hour.Explore the vibrant colors, evocative light, and distinctive atmospheres of the Mediterranean through the work of photographers François Le Diascorn, Gladys, Hervé Gloaguen, Yves Jeanmougin, Martine Voyeux, John Batho, and Dolorès Marat. From the golden nights of Rome and the muted dawns of Algiers to the sun-drenched streets of Naples and the luminous landscapes of the desert, these photographs capture the region’s beauty, mystery, and emotional depth. United by their personal visions and explorations of color, the artists transform familiar places into poetic scenes shaped by sunlight, memory, and imagination. This event is free to attend, but an RSVP is required.About the exhibit:On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of photography in 2026, France's Ministry of Culture has called for a major celebration honoring photographic creation and heritage in all their forms, throughout the country and abroad. "product_title": "From Life to Comics - A Graphic Storytelling Workshop for Tweens & Teens",
"product_content": "Can an ordinary moment become a comic?Join comic artist [Ziyed](https:\/\/linktr.ee\/ziyedyusufayoub) for a hands-on graphic storytelling workshop for tweens and teens that begins with drawing from real life and ends with a short visual story. Participants will start with several quick observation drawings of a real subject. They will then choose one drawing and imagine what might have happened immediately before that moment and what could happen immediately afterward. The original observation becomes the middle moment of a short three- to six-panel comic. Through this process, participants will discover how comics use differences between images to create time, movement and narrative. The workshop introduces observation, simplification, character action, setting, panels, visual continuity and basic sequential storytelling without requiring participants to create an elaborate plot or arrive with previous experience. The emphasis is on experimentation: looking closely, making choices and seeing how an ordinary moment can suggest a larger story. This workshop grows out of Observation Station, Ziyed's ongoing project exploring how live observation, movement, place and collected experience can become source material for comics and graphic narrative. No previous comics or drawing experience is required. Teens, tweens, and focused kids are welcome to this workshop, which will be in French. Materials are provided. This event is free, but an RSVP is required.About Observation Station Observation Station is a mobile, site-responsive drawing installation that transforms climbing gyms and movement spaces into observation spaces. Positioned directly within environments of physical discipline, the project uses observational drawing to capture the biomechanics, rhythms, and spatial negotiations of bodies in motion. Moving beyond traditional representation, the project champions a collaborative visual archive. LGBTQ+ athletes and underserved community members are not passive subjects, but active contributors to a shared visual archive, demonstrating how embodied practices generate unique forms of visual knowledge. About Ziyed [Ziyed](https:\/\/linktr.ee\/ziyedyusufayoub) is a French-American visual artist working through graphic narrative and observational drawing. An alumnus of the ESMA School of Arts in Toulouse, his practice investigates the biomechanics, spatial tension, and communal dynamics of bodies in motion. A dedicated civic participant, Ziyed serves as a Public Art Juror for the City of Eugene and has exhibited extensively, including at the Hult Center's Mayor's Art Show and the Mairies of the 4th and 11th Parisian Districts. His sequential artwork has been published internationally by major outlets including Image Comics and BOOM! Studios.",

"product_content": "How can something witnessed in the world eventually turn into in a graphic narrative? Join French-American graphic artist [Ziyed](https:\/\/linktr.ee\/ziyedyusufayoub) for a conversation and live-drawing demonstration exploring the path from field observation and research to selection, narrative development and sequential art. This event is in French—it's a great opportunity to converse with the artist and improve your language skills at the same time! Through Ziyed's drawings, notes, research, you'll learn about how observations accumulate before an artist decides what to keep, omit, combine, simplify or develop into a sequence. Ziyed will also discuss the material that does not become part of a story, and why selection is itself part of the creative process. You can look forward to a short participatory exercise where you'll be invited to observe something in the room, make a quick drawing and\/or written notation, and consider what narrative possibilities might be contained in that observation. The event takes place directly before the inaugural Club BD meeting, offering a bridge into questions of point of view, visual interpretation and sequence before the discussion of Jacques Ferrandez's illustrated adaptation of Albert Camus' L'Etranger. No previous drawing experience required. Stéphanie’s warm, encouraging presence, combined with Ivy’s gentle nature, creates a safe and joyful space where young readers can build confidence, practice their French, and experience the unique joy of reading to a caring, four-legged listener. Stéphanie and Ivy are thrilled to now bring their animal therapy program to the Alliance Française, offering children a special way to connect with both language and kindness. How It Works: Open to all independent readers, starting at age 6.Each event is limited to four children.Every child will read individually for 15 minutes.Sessions last 60 minutes total, with back-to-back readings.Books will be provided by the Alliance Française and selected based on the child's age and level.Families must register in advance. Once registered, you’ll receive a follow-up with your child’s specific reading time. The sessions take place at the Alliance Française de Portland. This program is free and open to all, though we warmly encourage memberships and optional donations to help support educational and cultural programs like this one. Memberships start at just $20 a year and directly contribute to keeping community events like this possible. RSVPs are accepted until the Friday evening before the Saturday event. Come share the joy of reading in French—one wagging tail at a time!",

The \"Reading Time With Ivy, The Therapy Dog\" program is designed to help young learners build confidence in reading, improve pronunciation, and develop a lifelong love of books in French. For early readers, this program is a chance to practice reading aloud in a calm, non-judgmental setting. For those who already read well, it’s an enjoyable way to strengthen their skills and nurture their passion for French literature. ## About your hosts Children will have the opportunity to read aloud to Ivy, a calm and affectionate seven-year-old black Labrador who lives to please the humans around her, and her owner, Stéphanie Fernandes. Ivy is a therapy dog and has been registered with Pet Partners since 2022. She visits places like Lincoln High School, Randall Children’s Hospital, and Nexus Family Healing Center, bringing comfort and connection to people of all ages. Originally from Montréal, Québec, Stéphanie has lived in the Portland metro area since 2004. A passionate advocate for the French language, she chose to raise her three children in French from birth and volunteered for over a decade at L’École Française Internationale de l’Oregon (FISO) while they attended school there, from 2010 to 2023. She continues to support the French program at Lincoln High School.
