Exploring Oregon and la francophonie through the natural world (animals and their habitats)

For children who have previous experience with French immersion. Instruction entirely in French.

Calling all geography buffs and animal lovers!

Over the course of 10 weeks, we will explore the animals and habitats we can find just beyond our doorsteps here in Oregon, as well as their equivalents in France and francophone countries. Each class will alternate between our homestate and the francophone world, giving students the opportunity to compare habitats and identify their similarities and differences! Together, we’ll discover life in old-growth forests, deserts, mountains, as well as marine and coastal habitats. Students will practice using their French, and learn new animal and environment- specific vocabulary through hands-on activities, games, interactive sites, videos and stories.

Your child will receive a complimentary field journal to continue exploring after the class, with no screen involved!

Course Objectives

  • Students will learn animal and environment specific vocabulary according to students’ language level and practice using their French in an immersive setting.
  • Students will be able to compare Oregon wildlife and habitats with those of France and francophone countries through interactive sites, videos, stories, games, and hands-on activities.
  • Throughout the term, students will create a field journal showcasing their work and favorite animals/habitats.
