Essential Everyday French

Essential Everyday French classes (three levels A1/A2, A2/B1, B1), focus on oral communication and comprehension at three levels. Practical, everyday topics are woven into real-life dialogues with vocabulary (both formal and slang/informal) and grammar tips. Improve your conversational skills, gain confidence and start talking!

Civilisation de la Francophonie

Through the text, Civilisation progressive de la francophonie, learn about the diversity and richness of societies outside of France; the culture and civilization, traditional dances, food, transportation and more.

The Art of Writing in French

Writing in French can be challenging even at the highest level. Classes will be focused on learning the nuances of French orthography and perfecting strategies for communicating in written French.

French Classes for Children

The children's program offers classes for Anglophone children ages 2-14, and classes for children ages 11-14 who have formerly attended French immersion schools and wish to keep up their French. The parent-child classes (2-3 year-olds, and 4-6 year-olds) are designed to provide a playful, stimulating environment in which parents and children learn together. In the 7-10 and 11-14 classes, children will study French in an engaging, educational and age-appropriate setting through cultural and linguistic immersion. Following an interactive method designed especially for young learners, each session presents different themes and linguistic skills, allowing students to explore the French language and francophone culture.

In response to COVID19, the Alliance is keeping its social distance by only offering online classes until further notice. See you online!

Ages 5-6

The classes for 5 and 6 year olds will study subjects sure to spark their imagination and curiosity. Whether your child is a beginner learner or well on their way toward fluency, you will find a perfect fit to enhance and enrich their daily activities with French language practice and, more importantly, fun.

Ages 7-10

After the online school day has ended and with few after-school programs available this fall, your child may want or need some additional French practice in subjects sure to spark their imagination and curiosity. Whether your child is a true beginner or well on their way toward fluency, you will find a perfect fit to enhance and enrich their online school activities with French language practice and, more importantly, fun. Choose from French for True Beginners, or Nature Explorers at Introductory or Continuing Immersion levels.

English Classes for Francophones

Do you have an artist at home in need of inspiration? In the Art Studio, our Zoom sessions inspire thinking, engagement, learning, creativity, French fluency and fun! Continue learning and creating in between classes by working on independent projects.

For children who have previous experience with French immersion. Instruction entirely in French.

Students will revisit simple vocabulary necessary for creating and describing works of art, such as colors, shapes, patterns, textures and art materials. They will also learn or revisit other basic vocabulary such as the French alphabet, numbers from 1 to 10, body parts, animals and emotion words.  They will learn and practice this vocabulary with the help of songs, games, videos and books with colorful illustrations. Students will also be introduced to different styles and works of art. They will create their own similar art pieces using paper and markers, crayons, colored pencils and watercolors. For some class sessions, we will use other materials. Advance notice will always be given for new materials. There will be simple independent projects assigned  for every other class session, such as drawing a picture or completing the art project that was started in class.

Class objectives

  • Acquire and practice essential French vocabulary
  • Refresh your child’s knowledge of the French alphabet and numbers
  • Discover different styles and works of art by various artists
  • Create art pieces using simple materials you can find at home
