Summer-2 Begins July 13: Try Out Our Five-Week Sessions

This summer, the Alliance is adapting to everyone's ever-changing schedules in the time of COVID-19 by offering flexible, low commitment online classes. Summer Term is offered in two sets of 5-week classes. Summer 1 ran June 8 - July 1; Summer 2 runs July 13 - August 15.

Browse through French Classes on our website to see the full Summer offerings. Core classes from French 101 through the Edito series continue with the second five weeks of the class. Rest assured, if you miss the Summer 1 session and start with Summer 2, we will give you pointers and provide handouts to help you catch up with the first part of your class.

Literary Conversations at the A2/B1 level continues, but each class is stand-alone, so you can easily join in for the second five weeks. In Summer 2, we're offering Art and Race for B1 students that takes a historical look at representation of color in Western art.

French à la carte continues in Summer 2 with new workshops including Hands-on French family cooking, Poésie engagée: Aime Césaire, and Cinema and Minorities. Workshop favorites such as Phonetics and Exercise Your Grammar continue in Summer 2.

See you this summer!

From the Archive to the Alley: Tracking the past in Modiano’s works – A literary talk by Rebecca Raitses

From the Archive to the Alley: Tracking the past in Modiano’s works – A literary talk by Rebecca Raitses

Rebecca Raitses considers the role of investigation in Patrick Modiano’s works and shows how Modiano’s narrators grasp at a recent past using strategies akin to detective work. At the same time, there is a more esoteric collapsing of past and present to provide a feeling of otherwise unattainable connection.

Rebecca Raitses is a PhD candidate in French at the Graduate Center, CUNY. Rebecca currently lives in Olympia and teaches French at City University of Seattle. Her dissertation-in-progress centers around the filiation narrative genre pioneered by Modiano.

This free literary event will be in English with some French. The event will be live online. Please reserve your place in advance to receive the Zoom link.
