The Alliance Française holds cultural events throughout the year, large and small. They are mostly in English and are open to the public. Come join us!

Events Policy

The member discount is applicable for one ticket per member.
Guests must pay the non-member price. Please note that a reservation is only confirmed upon receiving payment.

If tickets are available, the Alliance can accept payment at the door by credit card, check, or cash.

Payment:

  • Registration for Alliance Française events can be made in person at our office, over the phone, by mail, or through the web site.
  • Please make all checks payable to: Alliance Française de Portland. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Cancellations & Refunds:

  • Refunds will be automatically issued if the Alliance cancels an event.
  • If you need to cancel your registration for an event, you must do so at least 24 hours prior to the start of the program, and you will be fully credited toward a future event.
  • Refunds must be requested in writing no less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled event and will incur a 4% credit card processing fee.

Practice your French at a convo au café

In between trips to France, spend a few hours speaking French with other francophones in a casual environment at local conversation groups.

The St. Honoré group meets the first Wednesday of the month and is led by Alliance board member François Wevers. Join François for the upcoming session on Wednesday, October 2, from 6-8 p.m. at 2335 NW Thurman Street. Contact the Alliance for more information. All levels are welcome.

In southeast Portland, check out the Alliance group at Chez Machin, led by Alliance volunteer Clare Quinn. The group meets the second Monday of each month for Crêpes et Conversation, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at 3553 SE Hawthorne Boulevard. Contact the Alliance for more information. All levels welcome.

Les Copains du Dimanche meet every Sunday from 4:00-5:30 p.m. on the mezzanine of the Market of Choice, 1090 SE Belmont Street. Contact host and Alliance member Alan Grinnell for more information. All levels welcome.

Seminar - Le Goût du Vin, Part 2

Le goût du vin - A delicious journey through the wine regions of France

Explore and taste French wines through the lens of history and culture. Learn to read and demystify French wine labels as you discover new favorites and find hidden treasures. Wine & refreshments paired to the region will be served at each session. The seminar with be taught in English, with appropriate French vocabulary. The two five-week seminars may be taken in sequence or stand-alone. There will be a materials fee to cover wine & food pairings enjoyed in each class.

Maxine Borcherding, Chef, Sommelier, and lover of wine and fine food, will guide you through an in-depth look at the wine regions of France. Maxine’s professional certifications include Sommelier (International Sommelier Guild), French Wine Scholar (French Wine Academy), Spanish Wine Educator (Wine Academy of Spain), and Wine Location Specialist (Center for Wine Origins). She recently retired from 16 years as Lead Chef Instructor at the Oregon Culinary Institute.

Parking Information

Street parking on SW 20th St. facing the Kamm House is limited. Free parking is available in Lot B at SW 18th and SW Columbia. Please obtain a parking pass from the office.

After 6 pm weekdays, students may park in the Willamette Dental lot at SW 20th and SW Jefferson as available.
