Conversation, Pronunciation, Review (CPR) 106

Required: 105 or equiv.

CPR106 - Conversation, Pronunciation, Review. This class has been designed as a juncture between the 100 and the 200 levels. It is perfect for those who want to build strong conversational and pronunciation skills and review some grammar before moving on to the next textbook Saison 2). This class is also a great choice for students currently enrolled in 105/201 who are interested in attending class twice a week, and in augmenting their textbook-based class with a course focusing on conversation and pronunciation.

Intermediate Saison 201

Required: CPR 106 (preferred)/Saison 105 or equiv.

CommunicationExpressing difficulty; describing personalities, physical traits, interests and leisure activities.

GrammarPast participle agreement w/"avoir"; relative pronouns "qui, que, ce qui, ce que"; imperfect tense. 

Phonetics: Liaison; final consonants.

Intermediate Saison 202

Required: 201 or equiv.

Communication: Speaking of one's studies and career; building a network; social media.

Grammar: Passé composé and imparfait; direct and indirect object pronouns; inverted questions; reported speech.

Phonetics: Silent /e/; vowels.

Intermediate Saison 203

Required: 202 or equiv.

Communication: Describing objects; expressing indifference, ignorance, reassurance; writing a for-sale ad; talking about one’s past; identifying stereotypes; conversing on the phone.

Grammar: Comparative & superlative adjectives; demonstrative & interrogative pronouns; subjunctive mood; gerunds; pluperfect; pronouns - en/y/où/dont; verbs – vivre/valoir/accueillir.

Phonetics: / y / /Ø / /oe /; / i / / e / / Ɛ /; / / ã // ɔ̃ /; / j /.

Intermediate Saison 205

Required: 204 or equiv.

Communication: Structuring and adding nuance to proposals; written communication (email/letter); formulating a complaint or a protest; highlighting or placing emphasis, explaining cause and consequence.

Grammar: Using the hypothetical / conditional, adverbial expressions with “en –ant"; passive voice; double pronouns; the subjunctive; verbs - vaincre/conclure/résoudre.

Phonetics: /u/; /w/; oral and nasal vowels.

Art

Bring your walking shoes and notebooks for five weeks of art critique and Portland Art Museum visits. This class will enrich your vocabulary and improve your communication skills through close observation of artworks and slow looking. During each museum visit, students will have the opportunity to present individual critiques or share as a group. The first class will be held in the Kamm House; the following four will meet at the PAM.

Street parking on SW 20th St. facing the Kamm House is limited. Free parking is available in Lot A at SW 18th and SW Columbia. Please obtain a parking pass from the office.

After 6 pm weekdays, students may park in the Willamette Dental lot at SW 20th and SW Jefferson as available.
