This class will study two award-winning movies from the 90's, the masterpiece from Matthieu Kassovitch La Haine (1995) and Indochine (1993) with the César award-winning actress Catherine Deneuve, each over a two-week period. First, the teacher will cover the cinematographic techniques, the plot and related vocabulary specific to each film. Then students will discuss the consequences of colonisation and inequalities shown in the plot and also study the historic and social context.
