Music Workshop Ages 6-12

Join us for a unique workshop that combines music and French, aiming to encourage self-expression through music and language.

Each participant will have the opportunity to participate in creation of a song through reflections on their own personal anthem.

In this workshop, we will start by preparing the body and voice with introductory exercises and a word association game. Then, the children will reflect on their qualities, passions, desires, dreams, and values in writing. Each child will compose a phrase for their personal song. We will assemble these phrases to create a collective song that we will learn to a known melody, adding a chorus written by the teacher. If time permits, we will create a small dance with choreography.

Bring your child dressed in comfortable clothing to move freely. Participation is free, but registration is required. Due to the very limited space, please register only if you are certain to attend. Please arrive 5 minutes before the end of the workshop to pick up your child and watch their mini performance.

Rocky Cohen is an artist and musician based in Portland, Oregon, who has lived in six countries, most recently the french-speaking part of Belgium. Rocky was raised in a musical family, with accordion-playing grandparents, a guitarist father, and a theatrical and operatic mother. As well as singing and songwriting, Rocky plays acoustic and electric guitar, autoharp, and a little piano. Rocky's favorite genres to sing are Disney musicals, folk, rock, country, and both secular and spiritual Jewish music, and Rocky loves hanging out with kids!
