What makes a movie magical?
How did filmmakers create incredible illusions more than 100 years ago? And why does music make us feel so much more?
Discover the extraordinary imagination of filmmaker Georges Méliès through film excerpts, explore the origins of cinematic special effects, and experiment with the tricks, sounds and musical ideas that can transform a moving image into a live experience.
Join Jean-François Alcoléa, Artistic Director of Alcoléa & Cie and creator of Right in the Eye, for a playful behind-the-scenes journey into the world of early cinema and the creative process behind his live film-concert.
In February 2027, you’ll have an opportunity to see this live film-concert presented at Portland Art Museum’s Whitsell Auditorium.
Come curious, leave inspired, and discover how a little movie magic is made!
