Livre sélectionné pour Novembre
Un barrage contre le Pacifique
"Un barrage contre le Pacifique" explores themes of colonial exploitation, poverty, family dysfunction, and coming-of-age. Suzanne, the teenage daughter, becomes the central character as she navigates first love and sexuality while witnessing her family's gradual destruction. The "barrage" represents both the literal futile fight against nature and the metaphorical barriers people build against life's harsh realities.
Marguerite Duras
Marguerite Duras (1914-1996) was a French writer born in colonial Vietnam. Her childhood experiences there inspired her most famous
works, including Un barrage contre le Pacifique and L'Amant (Prix Goncourt winner). A key figure in
French literature and cinema, she wrote over 40 books and directed experimental films. Known for her minimalist style exploring memory and
desire, she remains one of France's most influential 20th-century authors.
