Alliance Française de Portland is pleased to support and promote a unique opportunity for families in our community to participate in a
cultural exchange by hosting a French student. This program, organized by La Route des Langues USA, allows American families
to open their homes to a student from France for a short stay, fostering language immersion, intercultural understanding, and lifelong
connections.

Who Can Host?
The program is open to a wide variety of host families, including:
- Families with teenagers (the most popular profile)
- Families with younger children
- Empty nesters
- Single parents
- Couples without children
There is no single “ideal” host family—the key is a willingness to engage with the student, share your daily life, and provide a welcoming environment for this intercultural experience.
Flexible and Personalized Matching
La Route des Langues USA has developed Guestbook, a specialized online matching platform that allows families to create a profile and specify their hosting preferences (such as availability, and interests). Students then apply to families whose profiles align with their expectations, ensuring a good match. The final decision always rests with the host family, giving them full control over whom they welcome into their home.
A Program Led by Experts
La Route des Langues USA, a premium brand of APEX Education Group, has over 25 years of experience in international language programs. Every year, they facilitate language immersion experiences for over 1,500 students, ensuring high-quality, well-organized placements for both students and host families.
